Audio only version. Sandra Weber wrote a book about the adventures of a mother and daughter in the Adirondack Mountains. She weaves the history of the culture and land into her narrative. While it appears in picturebook format, it is definitely for the older children as well. Little ones can have it read to them and learn and the older ones will read it for themselves.

Our Stories, Our Songs: African Children Tlak About AIDS by Deborah Ellis. Ms. Ellis writes vignettes of young people whose lives have been altered by the AIDS epidemic. It is sad and hopeful in the same sentence. I promise you that you will not forget this book and the story it shares.
